The design of these dainty earrings is a based on the legendary Scottish Luckenbooth charms, which date back hundreds of years. This pair has a beautiful heart-framed thistle, topped with a 5-pointed crown.

Designed for pierced ears.

Size: Each Luckenbooth measures 5/8 across by 7/8" high, including the small ring at the top.

Material: All earring parts are solid sterling silver (.925). The Luckenbooth charms are hallmarked .925 on the reverse side.

Packaging: The earrings come mounted on a black flocked insert, in a silver foil gift box.

The Luckenbooth tradition: Heart-shaped brooches, in vogue in the early 1700's, were traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal and subsequently pinned to the baby's shawl to protect the child from evil "spirits." The name comes from their sale in the Luckenbooths around St. Giles Cathedral on The Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland. There are many variations on the Luckenbooth motif.
