SCOTTISH LUCKENBOOTH THISTLE HEART EARRINGS
Sterling Silver Dangles
The design of these beautifully-detailed earrings is a based on the legendary Scottish Luckenbooth charms, which date back hundreds of years. This pair has a beautiful heart-framed thistle, topped with a 5-pointed crown.
Each charm measures 7/8" high (including small ring at top) and 5/8" across, and weighs a lightweight 2 grams - very comfortable to wear. Designed for pierced ears.
These earrings come in a cotton-lined, silver foil box.
The Luckenbooth tradition: Heart-shaped brooches, in vogue in the early 1700's, were traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal and subsequently pinned to the baby's shawl to protect the child from evil "spirits." The name comes from their sale in the Luckenbooths around St. Giles Cathedral on The Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland.
