.CLASSIC SCOTTISH LUCKENBOOTH EARRINGS
Silver Over Pewter Dangles
These dainty and comfortably light dangle-style earrings for pierced ears are made of shiny silver over pewter. The Luckenbooths measure 1/2" and are nicely detailed. They come in a soft purple kraft box, on a black velvet mounting.
Short and sweet history of the Scottish Luckenbooth: Heart-shaped brooches, in vogue in the early 1700s, were traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal, and subsequently pinned to the baby's shawl to protect the child from evil "spirits." The name comes from their sale in the "locked booths," or Luckenbooths around St. Giles Cathedral on The Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland.
